Interest in the Program Management profession is at an all-time high. With PMI’s recently launched credential program for practitioners seeking to demonstrate their expertise in managing multiple projects that tie back to overall strategic objectives, advanced Project Managers are honing their skills.

Program Managers are typically defined as such: Program Managers are responsible for managing large, strategic Services engagements and multiple engagements that carry a high risk factor. Program Managers manage and coordinate multiple project initiatives within a single customer site and may also manage other Project Managers. What are the knowledge and skills that are needed to be successful in today’s changing environment? Specifically what are the business skills Program Managers need?

This presentation will discuss how change is influencing organizations to focus on developing their talent—especially program managers. Based on observations with global clients, formal research, Mr Haddad will outline an organizational framework needed to focus on human capital—a shift for many organizations as they have historically focused on financial capital. In addition, Mr. Haddad will identify six best practices, or habits, that program managers need to develop and to increase their effectiveness. This presentation will address the relevant, practical business skills Program Managers need to align projects with broader organizational objectives. However, studies have shown that many professionals lack experience in these soft-skill areas, which limits their ability to secure and succeed in the competition for program management jobs. By attending this presentation, current or aspiring Program Managers will understand how to see the "big picture" more clearly and work specifically toward organizational goals.
